My kids love insects and this story was a hit! The illustrations are bright, colorful and encourage young readers to engage in the story. It is also highlights STEM education. Reading, science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) books are an excellent way for learners to practice literacy skills and learn STEM content. This book also comes with some exciting and printable activity pages. What a great way to “extend” learning and encourage kids to explore their world!
Kids will adore the beach setting in Portugal and the curious little insect that Cora and Manny find while building their sandcastle. A great springboard for researching insects and getting kids involved in the process. Manny and Cora quietly observe the “mystery bug” digging in the sand. They discuss its attributes and even make up their own name for it, which of course is Beedog. When they get home, they do online research and even share their findings when they get back to school.
Absolutely perfect for your little insect explorers ages 4-8.
