~My Review~

 

I had a great time reading this debut novel from author Roan Halsall.  There is an intriguing mystery to solve and I enjoyed the timeline that switched from Now to Then (4 years prior).  We also get some narration from a “mystery” stalker who seems to have some kind of devious plan.  Who is it? Did I figure it out? (No, I was wrong this time). The story highlights how a mother’s love of her child surpasses all else in life. I could certainly relate to the mother, Natalie.  I was pulling for her and hoping that she could re-unite with her young son!

Natalie is wrongfully convicted and finds herself in jail and separated from her precious little boy, Harry.  I really like Natalie and was rooting for her to be reunited with her son. Tom divorced her and has taken their young son to the Isle of Man (she has no legal rights there).  Does Tom have something to hide? Why would he make a move like this? I was imagining the horror she must have felt anticipating her child just being “gone”.

When Natalie is released four years later, she is on the hunt for her four year old Harry.  She tells herself to “Get a grip. Focus.”  After all, she has “things to do“.  Natalie has a plan, but can she possibly pull it off?  How did she even get in this situation? Who is out to get her? And why?

Author Bio:

Rona’s debut psychological thriller, Keep You Safe is out on 17th August and her second novel will be out in November 2018.

Rona lives on the Isle of Man with her husband, two dogs and three guinea pigs. She has been a bookworm since she was a child and now she’s actually creating stories of her own, which still feels like a dream come true.

She is an outdoorsy person and loves stomping up a mountain, walking the coastal paths and exploring the wonderful beaches on the Island while she’s plotting how to kill off her next victim. She also makes sure she deletes her Google history on a regular basis, because… well, you can’t be too careful when you spend your life researching new and ingenious ways for people to die.

She has three children and two step-children who are now grown up and leading varied and interesting lives, which provides plenty of ideas for new stories!
