My Review:

A whirlwind of secrets and lies…

This was my first novel by Sheryl Browne and she really reeled me into this family drama that pulled on my heart strings.  The story revolves around Alicia, her husband, Justin, teen-age daughter, Sophie and infant son Lucas.

The first few chapters had me hooked as my emotions were soaring.  As the story moves on and suspicions surface, I had some strong opinions about some of the characters. The domino effect of how lies can hurt other people snowballs quickly. This is evident in Alicia’s web of deceit that is affecting not only her, but her family. The past has come forward and made a sticky mess. I found myself questioning motives and eager to find out what would happen next. I’m not going into the plot for fear of spoilers, but this read was a very emotional one for me, so hold on tight.

A tale of how one lie can take over your life and blur the lines of reality. How far is too far? Who to trust? This story tells how devastating an affair can be and how lying about it can come back to haunt you.  I found myself rooting for the family and there is some suspenseful moments that had me on edge.  An emotional family drama with some heartbreaking events that will give you much to think about. A fabulous and intense summer read!

Sheryl Browne brings you powerful psychological thriller and contemporary fiction. Sheryl’s latest psychological thriller THE AFFAIR – the second of a three-book deal – comes to you from fabulous BOOKOUTURE. A member of the Crime Writers’ Association and the Romantic Novelists’ Association, and previously writing for award winning Choc Lit, Sheryl has several books published and two short stories in Birmingham City University anthologies, where she completed her MA in Creative Writing.

So why does Sheryl write in two genres? Quoting E. L. Doctorow, Sheryl says: “Writing a novel is like driving a car at night. You can only see as far as your headlights…” This she thinks sums up a writer’s journey, you never quite know where you are going until you get there. You might start with an outline, but a strong character will always divert from the plot. If Sheryl’s not sure where a character is going, she simply has to trust him to show her the way. Plus, according to one reviewer, she also has a scary insight into the mind of a psychopath.

  1. Nice review, Holly. I was a little nervous though when you said we’d probably enjoy it if we liked The Woman Between Us because I wasn’t crazy about that book. This book’s description starts off almost identical to TWBU. I’m glad you liked it though. 😊
