#BookReview: Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng @pronounced_ing @penguinpress

34273236My Review…

A character driven family drama that is set in Shaker Heights, Cleveland. Shaker Heights is a planned community and to all appearances the Richardson family has the perfect life! This quiet suburb is about to unravel and the hidden motivations, lies, and secrets will be both shocking and revealing!

I loved the story and there were many jaw-dropping moments! Mrs. Richardson takes in a tenant (Mia) with a teenage daughter (Pearl) who are from a different walk of life and have a mysterious past. Pearl becomes close to the Richardson’s teenage children and Mrs. Richardson’s daughter (Izzy) will become close and almost obsessed with Mia. These relationships will prove to be upsetting and devastating in many ways.

Will Mrs. Richardson regret her choice of tenants or her judgement of them? Why are Mia and Pearl always moving from town to town? Do they have something to hide? Why is Izzy so drawn to Mia and why is there so much hostility between her and her own mother?

Mia and Pearl ultimately set in motion a stage for some shocking and unforeseen results!

Will Mrs. Richardson regret her choice of tenants or her judgement of them? Why are Mia and Pearl always moving from town to town? Do they have something to hide? Why is Izzy so drawn to Mia and why is there so much hostility between her and her own mother?

I was captivated by the characters and how their paths ultimately connected in the end. Fire destroys everything in its path and no one can control which way the flames go. An intoxicating and tragic read that left me with more questions than answers!

Book Description:

In Shaker Heights, a placid, progressive suburb of Cleveland, everything is planned – from the layout of the winding roads, to the colors of the houses, to the successful lives its residents will go on to lead. And no one embodies this spirit more than Elena Richardson, whose guiding principle is playing by the rules.
Enter Mia Warren – an enigmatic artist and single mother – who arrives in this idyllic bubble with her teenaged daughter Pearl, and rents a house from the Richardsons. Soon Mia and Pearl become more than tenants: all four Richardson children are drawn to the mother-daughter pair. But Mia carries with her a mysterious past and a disregard for the status quo that threatens to upend this carefully ordered community.
When old family friends of the Richardsons attempt to adopt a Chinese-American baby, a custody battle erupts that dramatically divides the town–and puts Mia and Elena on opposing sides. Suspicious of Mia and her motives, Elena is determined to uncover the secrets in Mia’s past. But her obsession will come at unexpected and devastating costs.
